Yes, Amphibians absorb minerals through their skin!
There has been mounting evidence for some time that much of the calcium and other minerals absorbed by amphibians in the wild are sequestered dermally rather than orally. So how can we replicate this in a captive environment? Through Mineral Clay Baths of course! Mineral clay baths are Very different from any other "Calcium Clay" on the market, being much finer and high in mineral specifically needed by amphibians for their health.
Our clay bath is specifically formulated to give the correct balance of minerals in an ultra-fine, water-soluble powder whereby biologically valuable minerals such as calcium, magnesium, zinc, potassium, iron, and cobalt are readily absorbable (bioavailable) through the skin of amphibians so they can be metabolized and used for bone growth and nerve function.
Additionally, minute amounts of clay will be consumed via flies eaten from the surface of the clay bath and via normal shedding behavior whereby amphibians typically consume their own skin and any clay residing on it. Due to the ultra-fine consistency of this clay, there is no risk of impaction as the clay can mostly be digested and any non-digestible components can be easily passed.
Use in conjunction with high-quality vitamin supplements to dust your feeder insects with such as Nekton Rep Calcium +D3 and Nekton Multi-Rep. For breeding frogs and oophaga, add Nekton-Rep (Vitamin A supplement) to your supplementation schedule.
